Thatchers strikes double gold in Taste of the West awards

Somerset cider maker Thatchers has been awarded two gold medals in this year’s Taste of the West Awards. Its ciders Thatchers Zero and Thatchers Katy were both recognised with gold, whilst its Rascal cider received silver.

Celebrating the best food and drink in the region, the Taste of the West Awards has grown to become the most prestigious food and drink awards programme in the South West over the last thirty years.

Thatchers Zero was unveiled at the beginning of 2020 and is Thatchers’ first alcohol-free cider. Pressed from bittersweet apples grown here in the South West, the fourth generation cider maker uses a unique production process to create Zero’s appley aromas and crisp refreshment. Zero doesn’t compromise on quality and has gone down a treat this year with drinkers wanting a non-alcoholic cider oozing with character.

Thatchers Katy is a beautiful single variety cider that Thatchers has been crafting at Myrtle Farm for over 20 years. Made from just one variety of apple, Katy, this cider has the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness. Fresh and fruity, with a refreshing sparkle and crisp, tangy finish, Thatchers Katy is delicious to enjoy with a meal.

This is the second prestigious award for Thatchers Zero this year. Earlier in the summer it was recognised as the Best No and Low Cider in the Imbibe No and Low Awards 2020.

Martin Thatcher, fourth generation of the cider making family to head the business, says, “It’s always a real thrill to be recognised for the quality of our ciders. We take great care in making our ciders for people to enjoy, so to have two gold medals from Taste of the West for two quite different styles of cider is testament to the skills of our cider makers.”
