Sharpham Wine launch first release from new winery at Sandridge Barton

To celebrate the end of the harvest and their recent relocation to a new winemaking operation at the Sandridge Barton Estate in South Devon, Sharpham Wine has launched Sharpham New Release.  Dominated by the grape variety Madeleine Angevine and supported with a touch of Bacchus, this new wine was produced in just eight weeks from vine to bottle and is limited to only 1600 bottles. It is available to purchase from the Sharpham Wine website www.sharpham.com (RRP £14.10)

This annual early release is always unveiled on the third Thursday of November, Beaujolais Nouveau Day, and is a wine that has gained a cult following over the years.

Duncan Schwab, chief executive officer of Sharpham Wine, comments: “Although 2020 has been a difficult year for many businesses, we’ve experienced an ideal long and sunny growing season, perfectly timed rain showers and a hot finish in September. This has resulted in a high-quality New Release 2020 wine, that showcases peachy aromas with that classic hint of banana. A dry but very fruity style with a mouth-watering acidity and gentle spritz.”

He continues: “We’re thrilled to launch our first wine from our new premises, on the other side of the River Dart. With the new investment here at Sandridge Barton, we are now in a position to go forward and put exceptional British wines on the world map. We have the perfect vineyards; a new state-of-the-art winery and we have climate change bringing us warmer conditions. All these things are coming together to give us an incredibly exciting future.”

The multi-award winning winery, which was previously located on the Sharpham Estate for 40 years, recently moved to the new winery next to Sandridge Barton’s large vineyard, which has supplied the majority of Sharpham Wine’s premium wine-making grapes.

Sharpham Wine recently won several medals at the recent Wine GB Awards including prestigious Golds for its Pinot Noir red and its 2019 Bacchus Stop-Ferment.

Sharpham Wine’s popular visitor centre will continue to operate at its present location on the Sharpham Estate and remains open for walkers in the run up to Christmas for click and collect and takeaways.
