Work starts on huge 250-bed hotel for Bristol city centre

A new four-star hotel is being built in Bristol city centre and plans to open in 2022.

The 250-bed hotel will be part of the Clayton chain and feature a restaurant, bar, gym and conference facilities. It will transform the former site of Edward Everard’s printing works on the corner of Broad Street and Nelson Street.

Dalata Hotel Group acquired the site, which had been used as offices by Natwest since the print works closed in 1967, two years ago.

The work is being overseen by developers Artisan Real Estate Investors Limited and will also include six serviced apartments, 23 one-bed and studio apartments in a residential block, a co-working space and retail units.

Clayton Hotel’s website reads: “This new Clayton Hotel will be a conversion of the listed façade and the existing Natwest Court office building on Broad Street.

“The 4-star property is ideally located in the centre of Bristol, close to Bristol’s commercial centre and within walking distance of the main shopping and leisure districts.”

It is thought that the print work’s unique Art Nouveau façade will be used as the entrance to the hotel when it welcomes guests in 2022.

Dalata operates nine Clayton hotels in the UK, including London, Cardiff, Leeds, Birmingham and Belfast and is launching new sites in Glasgow and Manchester, as well as Bristol, in 2022.
