2020 was an unprecedented year for us all and when lockdown was announced in March, EM&F closed their office doors with a feeling of trepidation and uncertainty. However, it soon became apparent that the fears were unfounded as the business enquiry rate continued to soar and business owners learnt to adapt with cafes, pubs and restaurants offering takeaway services and local stores becoming a lifeline for their local communities.
Surprisingly, throughout 2020 EM&F have enjoyed consistently high levels of sales with interest in catering businesses and the retail food sector remaining strong. Amongst some of the businesses sold in the Westcountry last year were Hoopers Café in the market town of Axminster, Devon; Stur of the Moment, a café with tea garden in North Dorset; Bramble Café in Poundbury, Dorset, Mabe Post Office & Stores in Cornwall, Otter Produce in Ottery St Mary and Jack Sprats, a coastal Devon Bistro.
EM&F were also pleased to announce the sale of Café Magdalen in Exeter which was purchased by local entrepreneurs the Taco Boys. Having been originally based on a beach in Cornwall, trading from a horsebox trailer, the Taco Boys built an excellent reputation for themselves, and made the decision to purchase premises in Exeter through EM&F. Purchaser Felix Craft described the service received by EM&F as being “great, efficient and friendly in a time where buying our new business couldn’t have been more unpredictable.” EM&F wish the Taco Boys every success with their new venture.
