Bristol delivery app launched to support independent restaurants

Restaurants in Bristol are signing up for a new delivery app that cuts commission and aims to pay riders more than the big global multinationals like Uber Eats.

The BARBI App has been created by The British Association of Restaurants, Bars & Independents Bristol to help support the city’s independent food and drink venues that are particularly dependent on delivery during the pandemic lockdown.

BARBI Bristol said: “We will cut in half the commission rate for venues and we will pay the drivers more on their base rate. This will stop the stranglehold that these other companies have on the industry.”

“We need to support our local independent venues more than ever at the moment. With more than 30,000 people in Bristol employed by the sector in the 1,800+ establishments, as well as the many other sectors that are within the nighttime economy from taxi drivers to farmers and suppliers, we need to do everything we can to keep these jobs sustainable and roofs over people’s heads and their families fed.”

Restaurants already signed up include The Marmalade Cafe in Clifton, Taste of Napoli in Broadmead, plus Cafe Kino and El Jefe Jose on Stokes Croft.

As well as delivery and click & collect, The BARBI App also offers a table ordering function for when restaurants reopen again. The Bristol-based developers hope to include table booking, event ticket sales, special offers and hospitality news soon

BARBI Bristol was set up in 2016 and over 400 venues are signed up to the association.
