New Dartmouth Farmers’ Market launching Saturday 8th May

The Coastal Kitchen are excited to announce the arrival of a new food and produce market in Dartmouth’s picturesque Old Market Square set in the heart of the town.

The market will be held on the second Saturday of each month from May to December and offer a wide range of artisan products including locally grown and milled flour, sourdough bread, Dartmoor honey, home-made cakes, savoury goods and locally reared meat as well as home-grown plants and flowers. The market will run from 9.30am – 3.30pm.

The Coastal Kitchen is a new venture conceived during Lockdown by two friends (Helen Lloyd & Julie Graham), who are keen to promote the amazing food and drink in the local area. Both have been involved in the organisation of the Dartmouth Food Festival for many years, and Julie is currently a Director of the event.

Julie says “When the Town Council gave us the opportunity to set up the Farmers Market we jumped at the chance. We’ve tried to seek out smaller, artisan producers who are perhaps new to some people, but there will be a few familiar faces too such as Dartmouth Fine Foods and Michael Sutton’s Cellar. We also plan to use the Community café in the coming months (as Covid restrictions lift) for demos, tastings and perhaps pop-up lunches.”

Cllr. Cathy Campos says “Dartmouth is surrounded by some of the country’s best food producers, so it seemed very strange that, despite popular Farmers Markets in neighbouring towns, we didn’t have one here. Therefore, Dartmouth Town Council was very keen to see if we could set up a regular event in the Old Market Square and were delighted when Helen and Julie of Coastal Kitchen put in a proposal to run one. With their Food Festival experience, love of good food and local knowledge, we are certain it will become a regular attraction for both locals and visitors and complement our other regular markets”.
