The Rockpool re-opens following renovation

A popular Cornish beach café in west Cornwall re-opens following a significant refurbishment – revealing stunning new dining and event space interiors, fresh menus and a host of seasonal pop-up events plus Cornish chef collaborations planned for 2021.

The Rockpool is located at one of Cornwall’s best surf spots, nestled between the dunes of Gwithian and Godrevy, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty at the far end of St Ives Bay.

The vibe here is friendly and relaxed – think barefoot and rustic – buzzing with families, friends, surfers and salty seadogs. Expect good food and sun-soaked beachside views.

Inspired by its unrivalled location on Cornwall’s coast the re-design, masterminded by design agency Absolute, incorporates ocean hues, soft sandy shades, plenty of natural light, leafy green plants, a log burner, plush soft furnishings and communal shared seating.

Close enough to smell the sea breeze, the inside environment now reflects The Rockpool’s beachside positioning – bringing a sense of the outdoors in.

The café offers laidback, all-day dining using only the best seasonal Cornish produce locally sourced from land and sea. Dishes are inspired by international cuisine and global flavours, offering a mix of small plates, designed to fuel on-the-go outdoor adventures, and delicious sit-down feasts for proper get-togethers where everyone can get stuck in.

Big on flavourful, unfussy yet delicious, dishes – favourites such as the popular Salt & pepper Squid, Pork Steamed Bao Bun and Beer Battered Fish & Chips, sit alongside new Surf or Turf options including Crispy Tofu Miso Broth and Rolled Ribeye Steak. Not to mention a whole new menu dedicated to pizza! The local brews and artisan Cornish spirits also come highly recommended.

The indoor event space, benefits from an increased capacity and the expert in-house team, is perfectly placed to host boho-inspired private parties, events and weddings by the beach.

Ryan Venning, head chef and general manager is the driving force behind the café’s refreshed offering. Originally from South Africa, armed with impressive foodie credentials he followed the surf to Cornwall – before taking over the The Rockpool’s kitchen and menu design. Speaking of the cafes new-look, Ryan says: “We’re stoked to be opening our doors, welcoming in a new dawn for The Rockpool – we know how lucky we are to call this part of world home and wanted our revitalised guest experience to share in the Cornish lifestyle. It’s all about great food, professional yet friendly service and awesome sea views – it also doesn’t hurt that the surf is killer here too!”.

The Rockpool is now open for take-away and outdoor dining from 10-5pm. Daytime indoor dining will re-open from May 17th and evening service will resume on Friday and Saturday nights from June 4th. During the summer months, from July, The Rockpool will be open 7 days a week serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.

For more information about bespoke events and weddings or to view the menu or to make a table reservation please visit therockpoolbeachcafe.co.uk or call The Rockpool team on 01736 449990.
