New indoor dining for Hayle beach shack

A popular beachside shack at North Quay in Hayle has expanded with the creation of a new indoor dining area.

Lula, which opened in July 2020, has grown from a small container with outdoor seating, to a cosy and relaxed beach bar and restaurant with inside tables and an extended outside terrace.

Owner Sam Sheffield-Dunstan said: “We are so excited to show off what we have been up to over lockdown when we fully reopen on 17 May. I have really enjoyed creating our new indoor space, which takes inspiration from our natural surroundings of the beach and harbour with a focus on our amazing view. We have kept things simple, and I am so pleased with how it has all come together. It’s fantastic to see my vision come to life, and I can’t wait to start welcoming guests in the coming weeks. It has a relaxed vibe with lots of natural wood and a log fire for wintery days. A lot of the interior decor has been created using reclaimed and recycled materials, such as our lobster pot lights which are made by Elle Veale, a local artist and daughter of a Hayle fisherman.”

Popular with locals, Lula has remained open throughout the most recent lockdown serving takeaways. The team has also been extremely busy since the reopening of outdoor hospitality in mid-April, where diners have come to enjoy food inspired by dishes of America’s Deep South.

Sam continued: “Lula is now an all weather shack which makes the most of our stunning position on the edge of the beach with panoramic views overlooking the Hayle Estuary. We have also created a private dining space, which can be booked for informal events and small weddings. Whilst we have focused on creating our new indoor space over the last few months, we still have plenty of room for alfresco dining with the expansion of our terrace and addition of a fire pit last autumn, and have plans for a series of exciting events this summer which will combine my love of music and food.”

Lula is open between 9am and 9pm daily for dining and takeaway. For more information, visit lulashack.co.uk.
