Calling all coastal businesses! How well do you know your part of the English coastline?

Test your knowledge, and become a Coastal Ambassador

Marking English Tourism Week 2021, England’s Coast, the browse-and-book tool showcasing the whole of England’s spectacular coastline, is supporting coastal businesses this summer as they welcome back tourists after a long hiatus. It has launched a free online training course aimed at everyone working in hospitality – from restaurateurs and hoteliers to museum and attraction staff – across the English coastline.

Where are the top museums or best places to spot wildlife? Would you be able to give visitors an accurate history of local attractions or historic sites? When are the best festivals or events held, and where should art lovers head to? If you interact with visitors in a coastal destination and you’re in any doubt, then now is the perfect time to put your skills to the test with www.englandscoastambassador.co.uk, a free, online product knowledge training course that takes under an hour to complete.

Developed by the National Coastal Tourism Academy (NCTA), which focuses on boosting the number of visitors to England’s Coast, the course, split into eight coastal regions, is packed with information on each coastal area, with modules on nature, local towns and villages, top tips on getting around the county, activities and more.

“This free online training course is ideal for anyone working in the hospitality industry or meeting visitors in any capacity, whether you’re a restaurateur, hotelier, work in a bar, shop, café or pub,” says Samantha Richardson, Academy Director of the NCTA.

“It’s more important than ever that we offer visitors superb service and a very warm welcome this summer – for many, it will be their first staycation on the coast. We know there’s pent-up demand, and attracting this new audience is key to regenerating the coastal tourism industry on our shores.”

There are a total of eight modules, covering every section of the coast of England; the course is free, can be undertaken in stages and, on successful completion, users can download their own personalised certificate.
