Sharp’s Brewery’s new Cold River Cider secures silver at International Cider Challenge

Rock-based Sharp’s Brewery’s newly-launched Cold River Cider has earned recognition at the prestigious International Cider Challenge (ICC).

Just months after being rolled out in the UK in bars and restaurants, Cold River Cider was awarded a silver medal in the New World Cider Category at this year’s event. Judges acknowledged its light, crisp, and moreish flavour with a refreshing look to match. The highly-respected International Cider Challenge is now in its eleventh year, with a panel of 30 judges comprised supermarket buyers, independent retailers, cider experts, journalists and cidermakers.

Sharp’s Cold River Cider is a collaboration between Sharp’s Brewery’s Cornish team and Aspall Cyder House’s Suffolk team, combining Aspall’s three centuries of expertise and Sharp’s renowned innovative thinking to create a new premium 4.5% ABV medium-dry apple cider.

The team at Sharp’s Brewery has an established history of award-winning, creative collaborations, working with quality producers such as Camel Valley Vineyards and Southwestern Distillery on Camel Valley Pilsner and The Hopster Gin respectively in recent years.

James Nicholls, marketing controller for Sharp’s Brewery, said, “In Cold River Cider, we have created something truly unique; a crisp and moreish, refreshing medium-dry apple cider, and we’re delighted that this has been recognised by the panel at the International Cider Challenge so soon after our launch. Cold River Cider has brought together the taste-making expertise of the team at Aspall Cyder House with Sharp’s fresh perspective to create this delicious new cider, and both teams are incredibly proud of this award.”

James continues, “We’ve also just launched a Cold River Cider ‘Pint Finder’ so cider enthusiasts across the country can log onto our Sharp’s Brewery website and find out where they can go to try a refreshing glass of Cold River Cider over the coming months.”
