The Happy Cow, Bristol’s first all-vegan ice cream van will be getting a permanent spot at Narrow Quay on the city’s harbourside.
Set up by Chris Reed, the truck sells vegan Mr. Whippy-style ice cream made from plant-based milk and coconut oil. Served in waffle cones or compostable tubs, the toppings are vegan too.
Reed told Bristol Live: “Everyone is sceptical about vegan ice cream… I just thought, I can do better. For ethical reasons, we can produce something better.”
As well as selling the dairy-free ice cream, Reed plans to run the van on biofuel leftover from his fish and chip shop, Farrows.
The Happy Cow is still waiting to be awarded its formal license but its distinctive pink and white van will be occupying a spot for “new vendors” when it parks up at Narrow Quay at the harborside.
The popular vegan ice cream van was previously at the pop-up pub and restaurant garden Breaking Bread on Bristol’s Downs.
