Summer spirits collaboration for Cornish beach shack

Two Cornish businesses have partnered to create a gin and rum exclusively for a beach shack in Hayle.

Lula, a popular seafood and ribs shack overlooking the Hayle Estuary, has collaborated with Rosemullion Distillery to create a Summer Gin and Spiced Rum, which will be available on the drinks menu, and to take home in specially branded bottles.

Lula’s owner, Sam Sheffield-Dunstan, said: “I discovered Rosemullion in a little shop and fell in love with it. I think they produce the best Cornish gin around.

“I contacted them to ask if we could collaborate on some products for the shack, and it turned out they loved Lula too – so it was a great match.

“Lula Rum is a spiced rum perfect for our dark and stormy cocktail, and the gin pairs so well with a refreshing Mediterranean tonic. Both are best enjoyed sat at Lula with our gorgeous views over the beach, but we are also selling the bottles so people can take a piece of us home.”

Founded in 2019 by chemists Andy and Liz Bradbury, Rosemullion is a multi-award-winning distillery based on The Helford in south Cornwall. Its remaining products, all available via Rosemullion Distillery’s web shop, include four gins, five rums, a seasonal spirit, and a selection of gift sets.

Co-founder Andy Bradbury said: “We love collaborating with local businesses, so we were thrilled when Sam asked us to create two bespoke spirits for Lula. The shack is in a truly enviable position at Hayle North Quay, and since it opened last year, Liz and I have loved visiting Hayle to sample Lula’s delicious food and take in the beautiful views.

“The two new spirits are very much inspired by the coastal surroundings in which they will be served, and we cannot wait to see Lula’s customers enjoying the gin and rum – whether they’re with a simple mixer or in a decadent cocktail – perfectly paired with the shack’s signature seafood and ribs.”

Using local ingredients foraged from the coast and countryside, Rosemullion has won more than 50 international awards, and is one of a small number of distilleries which creates its own base spirits from scratch.

A cosy and relaxed beach bar and restaurant with inside tables and an extended outside terrace, Lula is open seven days a week from 9.00am to 9.30pm for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks.

The shack operates on a walk-in only basis and serves takeaways throughout the day.
