
The Angel are delighted to announce that they have won Food Drink Devon’s ‘Best Fine Dining Restaurant 2021’. The glittering 10th anniversary Food Drink Devon Awards Ceremony was held at the New Continental Hotel on Monday 4th October, and hosted by Oz Clarke OBE.
The evening was proof that Devon does food best. Devon has a fabulous selection of restaurants, pubs, cafes, retailers and producers throughout the county; all passionate about creating the best food and drink in the UK. Dartmouth is particularly blessed with some excellent eateries and producers.

The Angel team are simply thrilled to have won Best Fine Dining Restaurant for 2021. It has been an incredibly hard year. The pandemic created problems they could never have foreseen with staff shortages being the biggest. Preparing and producing fine dining dishes takes much time and effort, with input from every member of the team. Their worst news came in July when they very sadly lost their head Pastry Chef Craig Akehurst after a hard fought battle against lung cancer, which has meant they have all struggled with bereavement too.
Elly Wentworth, Head Chef at the Angel said ‘The Angel team are the best, working incredibly hard, even in the most difficult circumstances this past year and this award is a testament to them. I’d like to thank our loyal customers too, as without them and their recommendations and reviews, we would not be where we are today.‘
The whole team would like to thank Food Drink Devon for all of their support, and to congratulate all the other winners on the night, particularly their colleagues in Dartmouth: Bayard’s Cove Inn and Morellos on both achieving Gold awards. They think it is fitting to dedicate this award to Craig, as he was an integral and vital part of the Angel’s success, and would have been so thrilled with the news. They hope to see you soon to showcase fine dining at its best in the beautiful town of Dartmouth.
