Chef Josh Eggleton’s Michelin-starred Pony & Trap gastropub in Chew Magna, North Somerset, is reopening as a cookery school, wedding venue and restaurant in spring 2022.
The Pony & Trap closed amidst the Covid pandemic in March 2020 and “will never return under the same guise again” according to a statement on the website. Josh Eggleton and his sister Holly, who opened the acclaimed gastropub in March 2011, aged 19 and 22, have recently opened the Pony Bistro in Bedminster, Bristol.
The statement said: “The Pony & Trap closed amidst the covid pandemic in March 2020, and will never return under the same guise again. Renamed The Pony Chew Valley, it will reopen in spring 2022, no longer as a gastropub, but as a wedding venue, cookery school and restaurant.
“While coming to the decision to call curtains on The Pony & Trap was not an easy one, it certainly is a very exciting new beginning to re-imagine ourselves as The Pony Chew Valley. It is an emotional time, as the past 15 years were nothing short of wonderful, but one thing that we are sure of, is the times ahead will be just as amazing. The plans we have for our beloved restaurant would never have been realised so soon without the forced closure back in March 2020, so we are pleased to be afforded with the opportunity to do so.”
