This winter, Watergate Bay Hotel is embarking on a partnership with No. 1 Cubs specialty coffee to open a new co-working space on the ground floor of its team HQ at The Hangar – just 10 minutes outside Newquay / off the A30, at the Aerohub.
Creating an enticing blend of café culture, award-winning interior design and spacious, airy workspaces, desks and meeting rooms, The Hangar co-working space will host remote workers, freelancers, start-ups, small businesses and professionals on the move – or those just wanting to make the most of an occasional meeting space. The vision is for the space to become a catalyst for creativity and collaboration, allowing members to spark new connections, share skills and savour good coffee.
A short hop from the beach, town, and major road, train and air routes, The Hangar is all about ease – with plenty of free parking, electric vehicle charging, fully accessible, bike lock-ups, showers and a large pantry for monthly workers, right next door to the kind of buzzy café you’d expect to find in the centre of town.
Run by No.1 Cubs, a fast-growing specialty coffee and clothing business serving Origin Coffee, the ground floor café at The Hangar sees talented baristas serving up mood-boosting brews alongside flavoursome homemade cakes and pastries, sourdough toasties and smoothie bowls.
Says No.1 Cubs Coffee co-founder Matt Butler: “The Hangar is a really beautiful space and we’re excited to see the community here grow as the co-working takes off. Coffee fuels creativity and sharp thinking – and so many business ventures and collaborations start with conversations over coffee. We’re looking forward to playing a part in that.”
No.1 Cubs’ café at The Hangar opens in tandem with its winter pop-up inside The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay, taking full advantage of sweeping Atlantic views and a relaxed, post-surf atmosphere on the sand.
The Hangar café and co-working spaces channel the spirit of Watergate Bay; thoughtfully designed by Dynargh Design’s Matt Hulme – who also created the new beach lofts at the hotel. With warm, earthy hues, lush foliage, hardwood floors and rattan touches, Matt has created a relaxed, organic environment that instantly banishes any corporate ‘office’ connotations.
Adds Ben Harper, Watergate Bay Managing Director: “We’ve been so impressed by the No.1 Cubs team’s energy, quality and vision since they started with their van on Sea Lane at Watergate Bay last year. We’re now looking forward to seeing them spread their wings in this beautiful permanent space that Matt has designed. What they’ve created at The Hangar feels relaxed and inviting for working people from all different walks of life to settle in and be productive – with great coffee on tap.”
Enjoying peaceful views of coastal countryside, with ample natural light streaming through its large windows, The Hangar’s position promotes clear-headed focus and encourages creative thinking. Members can float ideas in the Fish Tank space, book the Boardroom for private sessions with presentation screens, or allow informal conversations to flow in the breakout areas.
With desk space available to rent by the half-day, day, week or month, the new space offers a flexible escape from the monotonous familiarity of home working. And, the more they use it as a regular base, the more facilities members will be able to access.
2022/23 will see more exciting openings at this location, including the state-of-the-art, £7 million Cornwall Cycle Hub which was recently greenlit by Cornwall Council. With its 54 acres of enhanced natural landscape and trails, the Cycle Hub will be a major new cycling destination – with tree planting, wildflower meadows and managed grasslands boosting local biodiversity and creating space for visitors to unwind.
