A dining survey carried out by Northgate Yard, a £16million leisure development in the heart of Bridgwater town centre providing five high quality restaurant units, suggests more than half of people living in and around the Somerset town would eat out more frequently if more choices were available.
The Northgate Yard survey received more than 800 responses from people in Bridgwater and North and West Somerset with 51% saying that a lack of options, variety and choice is the main reason they don’t eat out in the town more regularly.
92.6% of respondents would like to see more dining options in Bridgwater with 28.5% currently eating out weekly and 28.3% eating out monthly. 88.6% of respondents said that they would eat out in the evening with almost half of those (43.5%) that would choose to dine out for brunch and lunch options.
The 40,000 sqft Northgate Yard regeneration project is spearheaded and funded by Sedgemoor District Council and includes already secured anchor tenants, WTW Scott Cinemas and Allstars Bowling, providing a 7-screen cinema, 8-lane bowling alley and sports bar.
65% of respondents would combine eating out with cinema or bowling and 66.7% most regularly eating out with their family, including children. The survey also revealed the top five choices for favourite cuisine include steak, Italian, Mexican and burgers with regional and local food making the cut.
Doug Bamsey, deputy chief executive of Sedgemoor District Council, says, “This survey shows that there is pent up demand for a wider selection of restaurants in Bridgwater and we’re confident that we will be able to bring this increased selection to the table at Northgate Yard.”
Kevin Connibear, Divisional Director at Fleurets, says, “We’re really pleased to be working with Sedgemoor District Council to bring in five quality dining brands to the Northgate Yard scheme, it is certainly clear that there is demand and the results from the survey also told us residents and regular visitors to the town would like to see a mix of cuisines and dining options and we’re pleased to say that talks with a number of vendors is already underway.”
Northgate Yard is still receiving offers from dining brands to join the scheme in Bridgwater which is due to open in Autumn this year. Interested vendors should contact leisure property specialists, Fleurets via nick.fisher@fleurets.com and kevin.conibear@fleurets.com.
