Skinner’s releases bottled lager due to popular demand

Skinner’s Brewery has launched a new line for retail and trade customers, venturing into bottled lager for the first time since 2019. The Cornish brewery’s helles-style lager Hellup! was released last year in keg, becoming an instant hit at bars across Cornwall and beyond. Now, to satisfy strong demand, the newly bottled 5% ABV refreshing lager launched at Expowest Cornwall this week. Hellup! will be available in 500ml bottles online and at bars and restaurants across the South West.

National Sales and Marketing Manager, Stuart Hughes, said: “We all occasionally fancy a lager, which is why we poured all our brewing prowess into creating Hellup! It quickly became one of our best-selling lines at The Tap Yard Bar here at the brewery. It’s a malt-accented golden lager – soft, smooth and easy drinking but with real substance behind it. We’re officially launching the eye-catching bottles at Expo West this week.”

The German helles style is an elusive one for brewers to emulate and craft beer lovers to seek out; Skinner’s Cornish version combines Magnum and Motueka hops with German Pilsner and Vienna malts.

Stuart said: “Both lager drinkers and pale ale fans will enjoy this, with clean and crisp lager meeting subtle hops and sweet malts. Expect gentle breadiness and bitter notes, refreshingly lifted with pine, herbs and citrus.”

Of the name, Stuart said: “The Cornish love a spot of good-humoured banter, which leads to many a tale of ‘right hellup’ i.e. when the mischief really kicks off, generally with amusing and occasionally legendary consequences. Always at the heart of the party here in Cornwall, Skinner’s have often been at the centre of a ‘right hellup’ and now we’ve bottled it!”
