In a unique coastal collaboration and in defence of the rising tide of plastic pollution, Cornwall based Sharp’s Brewery is about to launch a campaign with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) and the Stonegate Group. The weeklong campaign will take place from Saturday 2nd April until Sunday 10th April, and will enable voluntary beach cleaners to get a free pint of Atlantic Pale Ale as a reward for their eco efforts from 31 south west based Stonegate outlets.
The initiative will be launched at The Sloop Inn in St Ives on Saturday 2nd April from 1pm (until 2.30pm), where members of the Sharp’s Brewery and Surfers Against Sewage teams will facilitate a beach clean which all are invited to. The Sloop Inn will subsequently offer finger food and entertainment and of course, there will be a free pint of Atlantic Pale Ale (courtesy of Sharp’s Brewery) to all participants over the age of 18.
The Stonegate venues that will be taking part in the scheme can be viewed via the Atlantic pint finder here. Visitors to any one of these outlets over the week will notice Sharp’s Atlantic clean up pods outside. These have been developed specifically for the campaign and contain everything needed for a quick beach clean, such as branded reusable litter pickers and sacks. These are there to be used by anyone who wishes to use them.

To redeem a free pint, beach cleaners should simply log onto the Strava app (free to download), select ‘groups’, join ‘Surfers Against Sewage: Million Mile Clean’, log a ‘run’ when beginning their clean, click finish ‘run’ when finished and save as ‘MMC’ followed by the name of the outlet. Finally, they should simply show the bartender this completed clean to redeem their much-deserved free pint of Atlantic Pale Ale.
Sharp’s Brewery’s marketing controller, James Nicholls said, “We’re really excited about the launch of the campaign week and we hope our new Atlantic clean up pods will allow communities to remove many tonnes of plastic pollution from their much-loved local beaches and greenspaces over and over again. As you can imagine, being based near the beach in Cornwall, our team spends a lot of time outdoors, so ensuring we look after our coast and green spaces is incredibly important to us all. This is why we will continue to support such initiatives and help turn the tide on plastic pollution.”

James continued, “We are very grateful to The Sloop Inn for hosting our launch event and for being so supportive. If you can make the launch on April 2nd, it will be great fun for a fantastic purpose and you will even get a free pint of refreshing Atlantic Pale Ale, and entertainment from 1pm at The Sloop. Why not make a day of it?”
Director of Fundraising, Surfers Against Sewage, Pete Lewis said, “We’re delighted to be supporting Sharp’s Brewery and the Stonegate Group with this great initiative. The more people we can encourage to take part in beach cleans the better.”
The launch safety briefing will start from 1pm outside The Sloop Inn in St Ives on Saturday 2nd April and the clean will last for approximately 1.5 hours followed by entertainment and light refreshments inside the outlet from 2.30pm.
