Four gold medals have been awarded to Somerset cider maker Thatchers in this year’s Taste of the West Awards.
Amongst the ciders receiving the golden accolade is the latest blend to be unveiled at Myrtle Farm – Thatchers Blood Orange. A vibrant and sparkling cider, Thatchers Blood Orange was launched in the Spring, and is already taking the country by storm for its sweet, juicy and thirst quenching flavour.
Also receiving a Gold Medal is The Classics – a special edition made from classic apple varieties all harvested from just one single orchard in Banwell, Somerset.

Its alcohol-free cider Zero received a Gold Medal, as did one of Thatchers most time-honoured ciders, its popular single variety, Katy.
Celebrating the best food and drink made here in the West Country, the Taste of the West Awards has grown to become the most prestigious food and drink awards programme in the South West over the last thirty years.

Thatchers has been crafting cider at its home in Sandford since 1904, and the family run cider maker is still as passionate about creating new ciders as ever.
Martin Thatcher, fourth generation of the family to head the business, says, “We absolutely love creating new ciders, whether it’s with a single apple variety, with apples from just one orchard, or with a new flavour. What’s important is that all our ciders are made with a passion for the highest quality, creating ciders that appeal to today’s drinkers. We’re so pleased that they were loved by the judges. And for Taste of the West to recognise our newest cider, Blood Orange, alongside Katy that we’ve been crafting for well over 20 years, is a real thrill.”
