Summer in the city: The BIG Summer Market returns

A summertime showcase of local food, drink, art and craft returns this year, with Truro Farmers Market and The Cornwall Shop Small Market joining forces for The BIG Summer Market on 19th and 20th August, 9am – 4pm.

Last year the event drew crowds into the city for an alternative day out, providing a real highlight in the summer calendar. With over 60 stallholders already booked to attend this year, visitors can expect an irresistible array of delights once again, with Lemon Quay playing host to market stalls packed with local produce, plus demonstrations, live music and street food to enjoy.

The food and drink stalls of Truro Farmers Market will showcase summer produce on a grand scale; expect colourful fresh fruit and veg, fish and shellfish, locally reared meat, artisan cheeses and Cornwall’s best handcrafted drinks including wine, beer, cider and spirits. Locally grown flowers and plants will also be on sale in abundance, adding to the colourful array.

Stewart Girvan, Market Coordinator for Truro Farmers Market, said: “We’re looking forward to a great few days here on Lemon Quay. This is one of a series of bumper markets which take place during the year and celebrate Cornish produce throughout the seasons.” He added: “We invite our regulars, and people enjoying a holiday in Cornwall, to take a day trip to the city for an alternative summer outing – you won’t regret it!”

Meanwhile, the collective creativity of local indie businesses will be unleashed by The Cornwall Shop Small Market, who champion contemporary craft and design and offer a unique shopping experience. Marketgoers can discover beautiful home and lifestyle wares, vintage and salvage finds, ceramics and pottery, original paintings and photography, clothing and jewellery.

Sarah Curley of Duchy Fairs, who run The Cornwall Shop Small Market, said: “For two days in the centre of Cornwall’s city you can shop for original, beautiful, interesting, artisan, small batch and quality products, while supporting an indie trader or small business along the way. And of course, there’ll be plenty of Cornish ice cream too!”
