Cornish Gems has chosen YoungMinds as their ‘Gems Charity of the Year’ for 2022 – pledging their support to fundraise and drive awareness of the charity’s essential work to support the mental health of children, young people, and their parents.
Members of the team are embarking on an ambitious 25K trek along the Southwest Coast Path, to raise funds for the charity – as well as inviting their guests to also pledge their support by donating via the Cornish Gems website.
Dr Alex George, who Cornish Gems welcomed to stay at one of their properties in Cornwall earlier this year, is Downing Street’s Youth Mental Health Ambassador – tasked to advise government and raise the profile of mental health education and wellbeing – and an activist for YoungMinds. Dr Alex George shared: “I’m delighted to see Cornish Gems support for YoungMinds as their ‘Charity of the Year’ – the work they do for young people’s mental health is very close to my heart.”
The leading, independently owned company, based in Cornwall offers an expert team of local specialists with 15 years’ experience setting the highest standards of holiday homes in the UK. The team of over 100 local people appreciate the positive impact Cornwall’s natural environment has, and the importance of reconnecting with nature, to promote positive physical and mental wellbeing.
Emma Fashokun, Cornish Gems Guest Experience and CSR Manager, says: “We believe that taking care of each other, both at work and at home, is a top priority. We hugely respect and value the vital work of YoungMinds and want to do our very best to help support their work with young people and their families.”
The YoungMinds Development Manager, Michelle Kerrigan, added: “We are incredibly excited to be Cornish Gems’ charity partner who, through their fundraising and awareness raising will help to show young people that they’re not alone with their mental health. The pandemic has had a devastating impact on children and young people’s mental health, and we are grateful that the money Cornish Gems raises will significantly help us to be there for young people at this truly crucial time.”
The Gems Charity of the Year initiative began in 2018 and has so far raised over £17,500 for worthy causes, with donations being shared with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, the Cornwall Air Ambulance, the RNLI and Surfers Against Sewage.
