A new vegan deli is soon to be joining the independent retail hub CARGO at Bristol’s Wapping Wharf.
Herbivore is a new venture by Janice Heskett, the former manager of Café Matiriki and her daughter Danielle. The team are picking up the keys to their new premises at CARGO 2 in mid September and plan to fit out their shop before opening to the public a few weeks later.
Bristol regularly tops the global list as the most popular city for veganism and Herbivore will be sustainable and accessible, offering delicious vegan food sourced from small artisan producers.
Janice Heskett, owner of Herbivore, who is already a regular customer at Wapping Wharf says: “We are so excited to be opening our vegan deli in Wapping Wharf, it’s a very special place. We moved to Bristol ten years ago and instantly fell in love with the food scene here; it’s so refreshing for a community to actually embrace and support small, local independents.”

Stuart Hatton, managing director at Umberslade, the developer behind Wapping Wharf, says: “Janice and Danielle are hugely committed to creating something special at Herbivore and we feel it will complement the other independent businesses at CARGO perfectly. There are several vegetarians in our family and we often eat vegan meals and I’m sure many others are like us so Herbivore will be a popular new addition to our community.
Wapping Wharf is in the heart of Bristol’s historical and cultural quarter, with its tree-lined pedestrian and cycle route, Gaol Ferry Steps, providing an important connection between south Bristol to the city centre.
Now home to around 45 independent businesses, many of which are based within CARGO – a popular hub made of converted shipping containers, Wapping Wharf is home to some of the city’s best independent restaurants, shops, cafes and lifestyle businesses.
