South West fish and chip shops named in UK’s top 40

Four FIsh and Chip Award winners holding awards from 2020

The National Fish and Chip Awards has announced the country’s top 40 fish and chip shops and several South West eateries have made the list.

The Oyster Shell in Bath, Pier Point in Torquay and Mike’s Traditional Fish & Chips in Eastleigh all made the grade after a rigorous judging process. Judging criteria included having to demonstrate high levels of knowledge of the fish and chip industry including customer service, and good environmental and sustainability practices.

Commenting on the top 40 shortlist, Andrew Crook, president of The National Federation of Fish Friers said: “Being able to announce the top 40 finalists for this category is an absolute pleasure. It is no secret that the industry are facing some challenges.

“That said, this industry is built upon British stoicism. And with spirit and determination we are committed to supporting our members and seeing through tough times. We cannot wait to celebrate at the awards ceremony in February 2023.”
