Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ joins Salcombe Distilling Co.’s award-winning line up

Multi-award winning distillery, Salcombe Distilling Co. is delighted to launch Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’, an outstanding transatlantic spiced gold rum. Expertly crafted, their newest release is a blend of single estate gold rum produced in Salcombe, with the finest exotic rums and spices from the Caribbean. Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ is available in a 50cl bottle, £35, ABV 40% from salcombegin.com.

Every drop of spirit in Salcombe Distilling Co.’s award-winning range is distilled with unrivaled passion, care and attention, with Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ being no exception. Produced at their stunning waterside home in South Devon, one of the world’s only distilleries directly accessible by boat, Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ takes its name from the street on which the distillery is found.

Commenting on the release of Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’, Angus Lugsdin, co-founder of Salcombe Distilling Co., says: “Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ is our first commercial rum, so hugely significant and exciting for us. Over the past three years, we’ve launched two limited edition single estate rums that are produced from scratch in Salcombe, which have proved extremely popular, leading to an ambition for us to increase production and make Salcombe Rum more widely available. Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ is a realisation of that ambition.

Angus continues; “To create our luxurious Island Street spirit, we first ferment, distill and age molasses in Salcombe to produce a single estate gold rum. We then blend the single estate rum with a hand-sourced, three year old pot distilled gold rum from Jamaica and a three year old column distilled rum from the Dominican Republic, along with a unique spiced pineapple distillate that we create here in Salcombe. The result is a smooth spiced gold rum, of which we’re exceptionally proud.”

Drawing influence from the famous 19th century Salcombe fruit schooners and their precious cargo, Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ is inspired by the Salcombe Fruiters’ sailing vessels and intrepid sailors who risked all in pursuit of their cargoes of highly prized pineapples and exotic spices.

Taste profile:

  • Nose – Sweet notes of soft brown sugar, rum baba cake, toasted coconut, spiced compote and a hint of pineapple on the nose.
  • Palate – Flavours of gingerbread cake, mince pie mix and warming vanilla with underlying fresh pineapple.
  • Finish – Rich and lingering with flavours of pecan nuts and a subtle floral sweetness.

Serving suggestion – Best served on its own over ice. It is also delicious with a premium ginger ale or ginger beer and garnished with a slice of dehydrated pineapple or fresh lime. Alternatively, try using the premium spirit in a spicy twist on an Old Fashioned.

Salcombe Rum ‘Island Street’ joins Salcombe Distilling Co.’s award-winning line-up of Salcombe Gin ‘Start Point’, ‘Rosé Sainte Marie’, the Voyager Series and New London Light non-alcoholic spirits and aperitifs.
