The National Trust’s Coleridge Cottage in Bridgwater, Somerset, is hosting a volunteer recruitment day on Wednesday 22 February, 11am-3pm.
Budding volunteers are invited to come along to Coleridge Cottage on the day to have a chat with staff and volunteers and learn about the multiple ways to get involved with the National Trust’s team.
There are many great ways to volunteer at Coleridge Cottage, whether it is re-telling the Coleridge story to visitors, helping in the tearoom, or supporting to care for the collection. New recruits have the chance to be a part of the team that brings Coleridge Cottage to life.
Jenny Ody, House Experience Volunteer, says “Volunteering at Coleridge Cottage is made special by the happy and relaxed atmosphere, plus you get to meet so many interesting visitors. The volunteer colleagues are a supportive group and when there is a lull in visitors there is always some friendly chatting taking place. They can also hear about volunteering at nearby Dunster Castle too.”
Home of romantic poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge between 1797-1799, Coleridge Cottage encourages visitors to find out how family life, friendships and the Quantock Hills inspired Coleridge’s poetry, by reading all about the extraordinary man, relaxing by the open fire, writing with a quill pen, like the poet himself, and enjoying a poet’s lunch in the tearoom.
“Visitors appreciate the personal touch our volunteers bring to their day, and we appreciate the support and loyalty our volunteers give to Coleridge Cottage. Volunteers don’t need to be an expert in all things Coleridge, but curious enough to pick up fun facts to share with our visitors. We want our volunteers to feel welcome and enjoy volunteering with us. Our roles are flexible to suit the volunteer’s interest and skills,” says Charlotte Hall, Visitor Experience Officer at Coleridge Cottage.
