Artisan pie makers and restaurant operators Pieminister has launched its first franchised site on Westgate Street in Bath. It’s the 16th UK site for the company, founded by Joe Simon and Tristan Hogg in 2003 after they were inspired by the pie shops they visited when travelling in Australia.
Pieminister launched its franchise programme in August 2021, intending to have 100 pie shops and 300 digital pie restaurants by 2030.
The company said: “As an independent Bristol business, we’re chuffed to bits to have landed in our neighbouring city of Bath. Many Bathonians discovered us back in the early days, at Glastonbury or The Raven in Queen Street, and we’ve been looking for the right spot to open a restaurant in the city for some time. The positive response from locals and a busy opening weekend is filling us with confidence that it’ll be a great success and a great indication of what’s to come.”
The new pie and mash restaurant in Bath is situated next to the music and comedy venue Komedia. It will serve the full range of the company’s award-winning pies, all of which in the classic range have won a Great Taste Award, including Moo (British beef steak and craft ale), Free Ranger (free-range British chicken and ham with thyme) and Heidi (Somerset goats cheese, sweet potato, spinach and red onion).
The pie specialists also carry several plant-based and vegan recipes, gluten-free pastry-based pies and a range of pocket-sized patties designed to be eaten on the go.
Express lunches on any weekday are priced at £8.50. There will be a Sunday Best – a pie topped with “the best bits from a classic roast” and a gravy fondue, “a little idea of Pieminister’s that went big on TikTok, so we just had to add it to the menu.”
Pieminister Bath will be open Friday and Saturday from noon to 11pm, and from noon to 10pm from Monday to Thursday.
