Westaway Sausages meat manufacturer of the year!

Newton Abbot based Westaway Sausages’ initiatives on sustainability have helped the company win 2023 UK Meat, Poultry and Seafood Manufacturer of the year at the Food Manufacturer Excellence Awards 2023.

In addition to this, Westaways are now shortlisted to be the UK Sustainable / Ethical Manufacturer of the Year at the Insider Made in the UK Awards.

Westaways have pioneered the use of home compostable packaging since 2016. As a food producer they believe they have the responsibility to tackle the problem of single use plastic head on. Not only have they removed plastic trays from their entire retail range, but they have also switched to Certified Home Compostable film. Cutting the need for approximately 10 tonnes of plastic to be used each year.

Their way of thinking has won them business year on year and as a result, Westaways have increased their capacity by 30% as retail and foodservice sales of pork sausages continue to grow.
