Cornish collaboration celebrates the King’s Coronation with ‘Crowning Royale’

Colwith Farm Distillery, Cornwall’s only single estate distillery, and the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery introduce a new limited edition ‘Crowning Royale’ cocktail – in celebration of the King’s Coronation on May 6th 2023.

Made for one and all, Crowning Royale is a twist on the Kir Royale cocktail, crafted by Colwith’s expert mixologist using Aval Dor Original Cornish Gin, Duchy of Cornwall Nursery Myrtle, Tregothnan Earl Grey Tea, and Crème de Cassis.

The new limited edition premium cocktail is topped with fizz, offering a classic and elegant toast – fit for a Royal celebration.

United by a shared sustainability ethos, serving both people and planet, the new cocktail inspired by King Charles’ love of the natural world, uses Myrtle, grown at the Duchy of Cornwall Nursery, infused in Colwith’s Aval Dor Original Cornish Gin.

Myrtle, the evergreen woody shrub, is historically intertwined in Royal traditions and considered a symbol of love, good luck, and prosperity.

Using both the Myrtle berries and leaves, the new Crowning Royale cocktail celebrates the tart and floral notes of bergamot and eucalyptus, rounded off beautifully with a touch of fruit. A well balanced and elegant cocktail creating an altogether memorable toast befitting of such a momentous occasion.

Steve Dustow, Colwith Farm Distillery founder, says: “We wanted to create a special tipple with a taste of the Duchy, to mark this historic occasion. In respect for King Charles as an ardent nature enthusiast, and links with Cornwall, we’ve blended our expertise with Cornish potatoes, grown on our family farm, and Myrtle grown at the Nursery to create a one of kind, sustainable and delicious drink. Yeghes da!”

Darren Topps, Head Gardener at Duchy of Cornwall Nursery added: “It’s been a real pleasure working with Colwith Farm Distillery on this very special Coronation cocktail. From the very beginning, the journey from creation to final product has been rewarding. I came up with the idea of using myrtle from the Nursery as it is known to be symbolic of love, good luck and prosperity, the perfect ingredient to celebrate the coronation of our King.”

Unlike most distilleries who buy-in mass produced ethanol, Colwith Farm Distillery make everything from scratch, using potatoes grown on their family farm to create their award-winning Aval Dor (which is Cornish for potato) spirits, sustainably.

The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery, a horticulture haven for over 50 years, holds a rich heritage and sits at the heart of the Duchy estate with views across to Restormel Castle. Founded on sustainable practises, in honour of the environment, here horticulture is celebrated, and nature allowed to flourish.

The limited-edition cocktail Crowning Royale is available now via Colwith Farm Distillery, in store and online. For further information or to order online please visit www.colwithfarmdistillery.co.uk.
