The big-hearted team at Bays Brewery in Paignton are proud to announce that their ‘roarsome’ brew Wild100 has raised £1,600, bringing their animal conservation charity total to more than £27,000. The family-run brewery joined forces with its friends at Paignton Zoo earlier this Summer to mark their 100th anniversary with the launch of a special-edition charity ale.
Available in bottles, cask and beer boxes, the crisp, copper-coloured pale ale was made using Slovenian and American hops and saw 5% of every pint and bottle sold go to wildlife conservation. Its charity brew Wild100 proved a hit among beer drinkers looking to quench their thirst in the name of a great cause, in what was also a fitting tribute to Paignton Zoo’s centenary celebrations,
Bays’ latest brew is one of a long line-up of ‘animal’ ales made in partnership with the visitor attraction, with the charity tipples raising more than £27,000 for endangered species to date. Last year Bays Brewery and Paignton Zoo teamed up for the launch of a limited-edition ‘Savanna’ ale, with proceeds going towards a new giraffe house for its all-female Rothchild’s herd.
Other firm favourites from the two Torbay businesses included Orangutan Ale, Crocod-ale and Trunk Ale, to name a few, with 10p of each pint and bottle sold donated to wildlife conservation.
Director of Bays Brewery, Peter Salmon, said: “Being a local Devon brewery, we’re always looking at how we can give something back to our community, and animal conservation also happens to be a subject close to our heart with our family links to Kenya.
“It’s been great working with Paignton Zoo once again for their centenary year, and Wild100 proved a huge success, selling out in record time and met by rave reviews from our loyal following of beer lovers. A huge thank you to everyone who helped us raise such a ‘roarsome’ amount for charity.”
Paignton Zoo Events and Corporate Relationship Manager, Katie White, added: “We’re delighted to hear that Bays Brewery have raised £1,600 through the sale of Wild 100 – an extra special beer for our centenary year.
“All of the money raised will go towards our mission of helping halt species decline, and we’d like to say a big thank you to the Bays team and to everyone that’s enjoyed a bottle of Wild 100. It has been great to work with Bays over the past few years, and we can’t wait to continue this relationship for years to come.”
Throughout 2023, the family-run brewery is also supporting a number of other top Devon charities with the launch of a further two charity beers aimed at giving something back to the community. Its current charity brew, Beery Head, is available now and inspired by Torbay’s most designated world heritage site of Berry Head, with 5% of proceeds going to Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust. Completing this year’s charity line-up will be Bays’ festive favourite, Jingle Ale, which will go on sale in November, a Christmas-time tipple supporting the Torbay Holiday Helpers Network.
