Brewery scoops five awards for best tasting beers

St Austell Brewery has won an armful of accolades for a range of its beers in this year’s International Beer Challenge.

Divine Intervention (13% abv) – the strongest beer the Cornish-born brewer has ever made – was awarded gold in the ales category for taste. Mena Dhu (4.5% abv) also secured a gold in the stouts and porters category.

Hicks (5% abv) – named after the brewery’s founder Walter Hicks – and gluten-free beer Wild Hare (5% abv), took home silver awards. The brewery’s flagship ale, Tribute, came away with a bronze.

Brewing director, Georgina Young, said: “To have such a variety of our beers recognised as best in class is a proud moment for me, the brewing team and the company as it enables us to showcase our commitment to innovation in brewing.

“We are passionate about putting time and care into creating a variety of beers which delight; be it our smoky, rich, Mena Dhu stout and amazing Quadruple, Divine Intervention as well as recognising the quality of the beers from Bath Ales at Hare Brewery, where Wild Hare, our crisp, gluten-free pale ale was born and is brewed.”

Beers across the globe which are entered into the taste category of the International Beer Challenge are subject to a rigorous blind tasting by panels of more than 70 respected and experienced industry experts ranging from retailers, importers, publicans, brewers, writers and flavour analysts.
