Two Drifters and easyJet: A pioneering partnership with a sustainable twist

In an industry-first, Two Drifters, the UK’s pioneering carbon-negative distillery, and leading airline easyJet, are shaking up the skies with an innovative partnership that marries sustainability with exceptional taste.

This world-first sees Two Drifters’ award-winning British Pure White Rum, available in 100% post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium bottles (Alumini®) on all easyJet flights departing from Bristol & Gatwick from 20 March 2024.

The transition from glass to aluminium offers significant environmental benefits, including helping to cut weight. The new aluminium Two Drifters bottles weigh just 60g when filled, compared to the 136g of their glass counterparts.

Two Drifters is the world’s first spirit brand to publish an Environmental Product Declaration, accounting for carbon emissions from cradle to grave (Scope 1,2 & 3 ). It is through such accounting that carbon reductions can be quantified, and the numbers speak for themselves.

Two Drifters Distillery is not just another rum maker. Nestled in Devon, UK, and made from starch, it stands as a beacon of environmental innovation, capturing and storing more CO2 than its entire production process emits. Thanks to its all-electric operation and utilising ground-breaking technology by Climeworks and Carbfix, every sip of Two Drifters rum carries a net positive impact on the planet.

“Joining forces with easyJet propels us towards a future where every drink served not only tastes good but does good,” explains Russ and Gemma Wakeham, the visionary founders of Two Drifters Distillery. “Switching to lightweight aluminium bottles, made from 100% recycled materials, and maximises the use of space across easyJet’s fleet. It’s about making a better choice and transforming the way we think about sustainability in the skies.”

David Mills, founder of Sustainaholics commented: “We’re incredibly proud to launch our award-winning Alumini® in an industry-first collaboration with easyJet and Two Drifters. We have the best possible launch airline in our mission to promote more travel-friendly solutions and showcase the innovation being delivered in the UK spirits industry today from independent challenger brands committed to producing great tasting drinks that minimise our impact on the planet.”

For easyJet’s discerning passengers, the choice is clear: Two Drifters offers not just a premium drink selection but a chance to be part of a larger movement towards sustainability, without compromising on quality or experience.

Simon Cox, Director of Inflight Retail at easyJet added: “Here at easyJet, we are always looking to enhance our customer experience, whether it’s our delicious on the go food and snacks, duty free shopping in the air as well as on-board beverages. We are delighted to be offering our customers even more choice and variety as we welcome Two Drifters to our drinks trolley.”
