Important vote taking place at the Great Cornish Food Store this week

To celebrate National Cream Tea Day the Great Cornish Food Store will be hosting a ‘Split vs Scone’ tasting extravaganza.

Historically, a Cornish cream tea used the now rare ‘splits’ – a more bread like, yeasted version of the scone. However, scones took over in popularity being quicker to make, without the need to leave them to prove. To honour the true heritage of the Cornish cream tea, the Great Cornish Food Store will be offering both splits and scones in store this Friday the 28th of June with a ballot box for customers to vote for their favourite.

Rodda’s and Boddington’s Berries will be in store to sample their delicious strawberry jam and genuine clotted cream to ensure a fair competition between the rivals. Lars & Margo, Tregothnan and Cornish Country Cordials will be sampling their coffee, tea and cordials as the perfect cream tea accompaniments and to keep voters hydrated.

The store will also be welcoming 18 students from a local secondary school to learn about the history and heritage of the cream tea as well as the stories behind the local suppliers and their produce. The students will be running their own split vs scone baking competition back in school.

To keep track of the voting polls, follow the Great Cornish Food Store’s Instagram account throughout the day.
