Since its early beginnings back in 1982 in the coach house of the Sharpham Estate, Sharpham Dairy has been transformed, since current owners Greg and Nicky Parsons took it on in 2019, into a modern, artisan cheesemaker and it remains a force to be reckoned with in the British cheese world.
Achieving B Corp Certification in 2022, the couple run the business as a ‘force for good’ believing in profit with purpose, ethical sourcing and treating staff, suppliers and stockists fairly. With a range of ten cheeses produced by their small team, plus a range of award-winning chutneys and sourdough crackers developed with local friends, Sharpham can supply everything you need for a winning cheeseboard including, of course, the Taste of the West Champion Cheese 2023, Rushmore.
Rushmore was created by happy accident when the goat farmer poured his goat’s milk on top of the cow’s milk one morning, and the team decided to make cheese anyway. The result after some fine tweaking was the 60% cow/40% goat semi-hard cheese, which has also won Gold at the Global Cheese Awards and the Great British Food Awards.
“Winning Taste of the West’s Champion Cheese in 2023 was a real feather in our cap. We knew we had something special with Rushmore, but it’s fantastic to have our opinion confirmed by so many expert judges.” Greg Parsons
