St Austell Brewery brought women together from across its business to create their own beer to mark International Women’s Day. The special brew will be available to order on the bar in selected St Austell Brewery pubs from Friday 7th – 10th March.
Krushin’ It, a special limited-edition golden ale, was brewed up by a 20-strong group of employees led by Brewing Director Georgina Young.
Women from payroll, sales, marketing, its pubs, and finance teams joined together to get stuck in on the brew, which will land in selected St Austell Brewery-managed pubs across the South West to coincide with the day of recognition.
Using special Krush™ hops from the USA, the 5% beer has tropical fruit flavours, including notes of peach, mango, and guava. Volunteers taking part in the brew got stuck in adding hops and malt, mashing in, digging out spent grain, and learning all about brewing – and one another – in the process.
For Sales Development Manager Olivia Sugg, who is based in Dorset, it was her first time brewing a beer. She said: “Having the opportunity to not only brew a beer but to do it with Georgina was really special and a pretty cool topic to bring up at the pub with friends and family. It was amazing to get the insight into how the brewing team works, too.”
St Austell Brewery’s Brewing Director, Georgina, who took over brewing operations in 2020, said: “With nearly 2,000 employees across the South West, it’s not always easy to connect with colleagues on a personal level, so this event was a fantastic chance for women from all areas of the business to come together and leave their mark on a beer.
“It was also a meaningful way to honour the women who have shaped the business and continue to do so. Much of our growth and success can be attributed to female leadership, not just today but throughout our history. Hester Parnall, who served as chairwoman from 1916 to 1939, is a rare example of female leadership in brewing during that era.”
Krushin’ It kicks off St Austell Brewery’s annual Cask Club programme, which encourages experimentation in its Small Batch Brewery. The ongoing programme sees brewers at the business create a beer of their own design, which is showcased on bars across St Austell Brewery’s managed estate throughout the year.
