St Austell Brewery launches all-British session pale ale in the off-trade for the first time

St Austell Brewery has launched Anthem, a 3.4% ABV British session pale ale, nationwide in supermarkets for the first time.

With a strong distribution network to support its launch, Anthem (4x440ml) is now available across the UK, from Penzance to Shetland, in over 650 Tesco stores, as well as via St Austell Brewery’s online shop.

Crafted by Brewing Director Georgina Young, the light and refreshing pale ale is made with 100% British ingredients, including malted barley grown in Cornwall and East Anglia, and featuring Golden Naked Oats from Northamptonshire. Additionally, four UK-grown hop varieties – Target, Olicana, Jester, and Harlequin – bring the beer’s vibrant, fruit-packed flavours to life.

Anthem has been available in St Austell Brewery’s pub estate and independent pubs across the UK since 2022 in cask form (ABV 3.8%), but now beer lovers can enjoy it at home in cans, too.

This launch marks a significant moment in St Austell Brewery’s 174-year history, with Anthem joining its expanding range of lower-alcohol beers, alongside the award-winning Proper Job 0.5% IPA, launched last year, and Cornish Best (3.4%) and. Anthem is perfect for easy summer sipping or for those looking to moderate with a fresh and fruity beer.

Georgina Young, Brewing Director at the independent, family-owned business, said: “We’re delighted to see Anthem join the ranks of Tribute, Proper Job, and korev as part of our fantastic beer portfolio, now available for people to enjoy at home.

“The beautifully light pale ale is bursting with juicy tropical notes of mango, peach, and apricot. With its slightly lower ABV of 3.4% in cans, it’s an easy-drinking, sessionable beer made with quality British ingredients – and despite the lower ABV, it doesn’t compromise on flavour.

“We’re especially proud of Anthem’s all-British line-up of ingredients. We work closely with our trusted network of suppliers to ensure we’re using the finest raw ingredients, showcasing the best of British brewing. The hops are exciting English varieties that emulate the juicy hop characteristics often associated with US beers. By sourcing our ingredients locally, we also support our sustainability efforts to reduce the environmental impact of our brewing operations.”

Anthem was the first core beer to be launched by Brewing Director Georgina Young in 2022 when it was introduced to bars in cask form.

Alongside the launch of Anthem in cans, korev (4.8%), St Austell Brewery’s flagship lager, is also launching regionally across the off-trade in a new 10x440ml can format. Anthem is available at Tesco with an introductory offer for Tesco Clubcard holders, as well as online via the St Austell Brewery shop, wholesale, and across its pub estate.
