As part of its tenth anniversary celebrations, social enterprise Newquay Orchard is hosting a fundraising dinner in its Heart and Soul café on Friday 30th May. Proceeds from the evening will directly support Newquay Orchard’s community learning and social programmes, ensuring more people have access to skills, training and opportunities, and overcoming barriers such as poor mental health or adverse experiences to build a brighter future and fulfill their potential.
This award-winning social, educational and community space, which was recently visited by King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is curating a seven course menu, prepared by its team of in-house chefs and young trainees using fresh produce grown and foraged at Newquay Orchard. Expert River Cottage Forager and author, Emma Gunn, will be the guest host. Tickets are priced at £125 each and are available from www.newquayorchard.co.uk.
Built by the community for the community, Newquay Orchard provides a place of learning, caring and well being through its connection with nature. The community organisation, which won the ‘Growing People’ category in the inaugural Great Cornish Food Awards, provides vocational and therapeutic learning, volunteering, and creative wellbeing activities along with a growing space, market garden and a range of community events.
A core part of Newquay Orchard’s mission is teaching people to grow and cook nutritious, seasonal food, much of which is served in its on-site Heart and Soul café. The fundraising event will not only highlight the variety of fresh produce grown at the community Orchard’s site but also showcase the young chefs and growers, including supported intern Matthew who is on a study programme at the Orchard, who are benefiting from the organisation’s social mission to equip disadvantaged people with new skills, demonstrating the positive impact a people-first philosophy can have on business success and reputation.
The evening’s host Emma Gunn says: “I’m so looking forward to hosting what will be a fantastic tenth anniversary dinner for the unique enterprise that is Newquay Orchard, a community project which benefits many people in lots of different ways. As a forager, their work championing the connection between food and nature is so important and inspirational.”
Newquay Orchard’s CEO Charlotte Hill adds: “Sustaining support to those most in need in our community is vital, particularly in challenging times such as these so we’re really determined to raise money to help us continue to provide all the services we offer the community at Newquay Community Orchard. We’re hoping our 10th anniversary year will generate essential funding and shine a light on our wonderful community space designed to bring together nature and people for a healthier, happier future.”
