Westaway Sausages unveils upgraded 900g packaging format

Westaway Sausages is proud to announce the relaunch of its 900g pack format, redesigned to enhance product presentation, optimise transport efficiency, and reinforce the company’s long standing commitment to sustainable packaging. The improved 900g packs will be available in ASDA, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Morrisons from week commencing 9th March.

The updated design ensures sausages reach customers looking their best. By transporting the packs lying flat, Westaway has eliminated the issue of sausages “slumping” during transit. Once in store, the packs are stood upright on shelf, creating a stronger visual presence and a more premium appearance. The new format is also complemented by bright, full-sleeve packaging, delivering excellent standout in the chiller.

Beyond improved appearance, the redesigned pack offers significant supply chain advantages. The format change enables more products per pallet, creating a more efficient and economical distribution process while reducing the environmental impact associated with transport.

Importantly, the refreshed packaging maintains Westaway’s commitment to sustainability. The 900g packs remain 100% compostable and recyclable, ensuring customers and retailers benefit from market leading environmentally responsible packaging.

“We’re delighted with the improvements this new pack delivers; from better product protection to more efficient transport and a brighter, more engaging look on shelf. This relaunch reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability, quality, and innovation.” Charles Baughan – Managing Director, Westaway Sausages

Alongside the 900g relaunch, Westaway Sausages is also proud to introduce two new premium sausages—Butchers Country Herb and Butchers Original—available exclusively in SPAR South West stores.

These stunning, award-winning sausages are crafted in a traditional butcher’s style, perfect for breakfast or versatile everyday cooking. Each recipe features 80% British pork, using coarsely minced shoulder with added belly for exceptional texture and flavour. All pork is fully traceable back to high welfare accredited British farms, reflecting Westaways long standing commitment to responsible sourcing.

Both products are presented in award winning, certified compostable packaging, offering customers a more sustainable choice without compromising freshness or quality.

This launch continues to strengthen the successful partnership between Westaways and SPAR South West, a relationship that has grown through shared values and close collaboration with Taste of the West. The connection through Taste of the West has helped both organisations champion local food excellence and bring high quality regional products to customers across the South West.

“We’re thrilled to bring these new sausages to SPAR South West,” said Charles Baughan. “Our relationship with SPAR has flourished through Taste of the West, and this launch continues our shared commitment to championing high quality local produce.”

“Appleby Westward are proud to continue building on our partnership with Westaways with the launch of our new range of premium sausages. We wanted to create an exclusive product that was locally and responsibly sourced, made from the best ingredients, and that our SPAR customers would love. We knew we could rely on Westaways to provide delicious butcher style sausages that would be a perfect fit for our customers in the South West,” said Matt Billing, Director of Fresh Trading.
