On the A361, near the banks of the River Parrett and just outside Barrowbridge, is this wonderful find. The Mump Farm Shop, named for the nearby hill/monument/local landmark, Burrow Mump, is open Wednesday to Saturday.
The farm shop is filled with the produce grown in the half-acre market garden which was created nearly five years ago and has been carefully cultivated using the famous “no dig” method to create the most naturally fertile soil. Vegetables positively brim with goodness and the food miles incurred to get them into the shop could not be fewer!
The shelves are filled with whatever is in season and joined by a selection of locally sourced essentials. There’s fresh bread from Lievito Bakery, organic milk from Bruton Dairy, free range eggs and honey from the farm. All of these goodies are also available in vegetable boxes which are delivered to the local area. In the recent storms, several deliveries were made by kayak, when the roads became too flooded to pass. Now that is dedication!
Recently, the Mump has partnered with a local florist and flower farmer, Bramble and Wild, to offer fresh flowers and bouquets at the shop. Other new products are arriving all the time with organic cheeses now in the store and various locally sourced oils and sauces, jams and cereals and beautifully curated gifts.
Whether you make it by road or by boat, this farm shop is definitely worth a look.
