Sabzi’s releases new Potato Seasoning

Sabzi Deli has launched a limited edition potato seasoning, in celebration of Iran, which is now available to buy both in store and online.

Sabzi Deli owner, Kate Arjomandi-Attlee said. “This year more than ever, I have reflected on how lucky I feel that Sabzi has Iran built into its foundations. I have wanted to celebrate our Iranian heritage with a spice blend in its honour for a long time, and I’m delighted to finally introduce our newest spice blend – Sabzi potato seasoning.”

Created by Kate and her kitchen team, and featuring dried Iranian black lime, the seasoning can simply be added to potatoes or chips once cooked. After adding a drizzle of olive oil, a big shake of the seasoning over hot potatoes will elevate this much-loved root vegetable, with the warmth waking up the flavour and aroma.

“My aim for this blend was to create a moreish, ‘salt and vinegar’ flavoured crisp inspired seasoning, that will being real sweet, sour and savoury interest to a delicious roasted potato, with the help of dried Iranian black lime, which is an key ingredient in many Persian dishes. You may have encountered dried limes if you have ever enjoyed Iranian soups and stews – they are traditionally added to these dishes whole and pierced with a knife to encourage their sour flavour to enrich the sauces of which they are part.”

The dried lime is the base of the new spice blend, and with the addition of rosemary, garlic and celery salt, and a hint of demerara sugar to offer a touch of sweetness in contrast to the citrus, the team have created an intensely savoury seasoning, for coating crispy-edged roast potatoes.

The potato seasoning joins a concise range of Sabzi products including spice blends, seed toppers, granola and biscotti, all of which are handmade in small batches by Sabzi’s in house team of chefs and bakers.

The deli group, which brings a taste of the Middle East to Cornwall, was founded by chef owner Kate Arjomandi-Attlee in 2019. Born and raised in Cornwall, with an Iranian father and British mother, Attlee’s Iranian heritage heavily influences the daily-changing menus at Sabzi’s four delis, and leads to humble, local ingredients being transformed into aromatic, fragrant, sun-soaked reminders of her father’s homeland.
