Devon’s Sandford Orchards’ Red Zero wins cider trophy at World Alcohol Free Awards

Devon-based Sandford Orchards is celebrating winning the Best Non-Alcoholic Cider Trophy at the World Alcohol-Free Awards for its alcohol-free cider, Red Zero, following on from winning Gold at these awards earlier this year. This cements its world-class status having already won Best Non-Alcoholic Cider at the World Cider Awards 2025, as well as a host of other accolades including awards from Untapped Gold 2026, Great British Food Awards, Great Taste Awards and The International Cider Challenge.

Barney Butterfield enjoying a Red Zero

Barny Butterfield, founder of Sandford Orchards comments: “We have had to get used to accepting awards for Red Zero but we are never blasé. The World Alcohol-Free Awards put Red Zero in front of experts in the field of alcohol-free drinks from across the globe. We were blown away by their comments which described Red Zero as ‘outstanding’, ‘complex, authentic and multi-layered’ and ‘a brilliant expression of cider without the alcohol’. We put a great deal of time and effort and all our cider know-how into creating a non-alcoholic cider that was as exceptional as our alcoholic ones and this award confirms that our hard work has paid off.”

Red Zero (ABV <0.5%) is an utterly delicious, crisp and fruity non-alcoholic cider produced from the fresh juice of traditional English cider apple varieties, all grown and pressed in Devon. Created using a combination of traditional cider methods and cutting edge technology, it is a real fermented drink with the alcohol extracted.

Barny continues: “We weren’t really prepared for the response to Red Zero. It has been a whirlwind since we first unveiled it in late 2024, with outstanding customer reviews, listings in the on and off trade and more award wins than we could ever have imagined. We are really proud to have officially created one of the most authentic non-alcoholic drinks in the world.”

The World Alcohol Free Awards is the first truly international drinks competition dedicated solely to drinks of 0.5% ABV and below. It is judged by experts in the field of alcohol-free drinks, including communicators, importers and retail and hospitality buyers.

Founded in 2002, independent, family-owned Sandford Orchards is based in Crediton, Mid Devon in the oldest working cider mill in the UK. Sandford Orchards takes a fresh, natural and low impact approach to producing cider. Combining tradition and innovation, Sandford Orchards produces an award-winning range of core session, traditional, fine and fruit ciders.
