White Lake named Supreme Champion at Somerset Cheese Awards

Roger Longman from White Lake Cheese is celebrating his latest trophy haul this week, having taken the title of Supreme Champion at The Cheese Awards at The Mid-Somerset Show in Shepton Mallet with his ash-coated goat’s cheese, Driftwood.

Winning the Supreme Champion title on home soil, with the Mid-Somerset Show taking place just a few miles from Bagborough Farm in Pylle, Driftwood took top honours among entries into 66 classes from across the UK and Ireland. On its way to the win, Driftwood also won the Artisan Championship and was named Somerset Champion Cheese, having impressed the judges at every stage of the competition.

Made with unpasteurised goat’s milk, Driftwood is one of the region’s most beloved and recognisable goat’s cheeses, first launched by Roger and the team in 2009. Beautifully creamy and soft textured, the log-shaped goat’s cheese is lightly coated in ash, bringing citrus notes and subtle peppery and earthy undertones to cheeseboards, salads and pizzas across Somerset and far beyond.

Adding yet more prizes to an incredible run of silverware for White Lake Cheese over the past 12 months, these wins follow two Great Taste 3-star awards last month, three major trophies and 23 prizes at the British & Irish Cheese Awards 2026, two major trophies and 27 prizes at the Artisan Cheese Awards 2026, and a spot in the final at the World Cheese Awards 2025 last November.

Roger Longman, owner and founder of White Lake Cheese, commented: “It’s all smiles at White Lake this week, with yet another big prize to show for our fantastic team’s efforts. We’ve had some incredible results at national and international competitions of late, but it means a great deal to come out on top at our local show. Somerset is, after all, one of the greatest and most-respected cheesemaking regions in the world, so to win here is no mean feat.”

Driftwood and White Lake Cheese’s full range of cheeses are available to purchase from whitelake.co.uk, as well as from independent retailers across the UK.
