Marking National Apple Day today, Somerset-based Sheppy’s Cider is celebrating the apples, orchards and traditional skill at the heart of Britain’s cidermaking heritage.
As a sixth-generation family cidermaker with more than 200 years of history, Sheppy’s has a longstanding connection to Somerset, where its own orchards reflect the apple-growing traditions. Apples remain central to the business and its cidermaking process, connecting generations of family expertise with the fruit that has shaped the local cider industry.
National Apple Day is the perfect opportunity to recognise the importance of Britain’s orchards and the people who care for them. Following a challenging growing season, the occasion also highlights the importance of protecting the country’s apple-growing traditions for future generations.
Sheppy’s is also taking part in the Find Your Cider campaign, backed by the National Association of Cider Makers (NACM), which celebrates the apples, orchard teams and cidermakers behind the UK’s cider industry. The aim of the campaign is to grow recognition of the people, places and processes that are contributing to the diversity of British cider.
While its heritage remains central to the business, Sheppy’s continues to develop its offering for modern consumers. Earlier this year, the cidermaker introduced Sheppy’s 200 Cider in a canned format, showing its continued development of new ways for consumers to enjoy its cider. With more than two centuries of cidermaking experience behind it, Sheppy’s continues to celebrate its Somerset roots while contributing to the future of British cider.
