Tucked away at Enford Farm in Durweston, just outside Blandford Forum, Enford Farm Shop is a family-run business best known for its home-reared meat but also offering locally produced food from across Dorset. For shoppers who appreciate knowing where their food comes from, it offers a welcome opportunity to support local farming while discovering some of the county’s excellent produce.
At the heart of the business is a focus on quality meat with hand written adverts letting customers know what the freshest cut is that day – pork chops, loin or sausages vie with rump steaks, lamb and wild garlic burgers and chicken kebabs. Alongside the plentiful meat counter is a pleasing array of vegetables, many grown on the farm – courgettes, peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes alongside more unusual mangel wurzels for cooks looking for something a bit different!
Whether you are planning a traditional Sunday roast, looking for inspiration for a midweek supper or preparing for a family barbecue, Enford Farm Shop is well worth a visit. There are all the usual store cupboard staples on offer too with local honey, fresh eggs, cheese, pet food and pasta.
This summer saw the addition of an outdoor café offering coffees and cakes from an old horse box. This farm shop is much more of a community meeting point than a quick stop and grab shop. There is a book swap point inside for customers to deposit second hand books and pick up a new read, plus a selection of gifts made locally – leather bags and belts made from old saddles take centre stage. Local crafters can rent a shelf in the shop from which to sell their wares and the shop organises craft fayres periodically. Plants are for sale on tables outside of the shop plus larger items, bags of potatoes and garden compost. Christmas puddings and Christmas trees are also on their way.
The sign on the outside of this gem of a farm shop sums it up beautifully:
“family run, locally sourced, free range and grass fed” Pop in and see for yourself.
