‘Slow cooked fast food’ barbecue restaurant coming to Bristol

A new barbecue restaurant called Low and Slow is opening in Bristol next month. Housed in the former Boston Tea Party site in Whiteladies Road, it will be the city’s first fast food barbecue restaurant, according to husband and wife founders Jack and Lyndsey Geah.

The couple currently run a street food stall in St Nicholas Market and are planning to only have counter service, rather than table service, at their new restaurant. Diners will be able to take their food away or eat in, after seeing it prepared and being able to customise their order.

Jack Geach told Bristol Live: “Fast food has been dominated by burgers and fried chicken for far too long and we want to do something a bit different.

“Based on our success at St Nicholas Market, and experience with festival catering, we will be offering the freshest slow-cooked American-style barbecue food in Bristol in a totally new and unique way.

“We know what customers are looking for has changed. Quality and convenience are now top priority. Customers have been really receptive to our model throughout the pandemic and we are so excited to be able to bring our food to a whole new audience on Whiteladies Road.”

Low and Slow was founded in 2016 as a pop-up food stall on Gloucester Road in Bristol. They plan to keep their St Nicholas Market site open but offer a wider range at their Whiteladies Road restaurant.

“The recipes we will be using have been being perfected over the last five years. Barbecue is a real labour of love and we can’t wait to share it with everyone. The food is prepared fresh every day and our unique processes mean that unlike many barbecue joints we never reheat our product, it comes straight from the smoker to the customer,” Jack added.

“We will be offering a mouthwatering range of slow-cooked meats, some exciting new vegetarian options, all served up with signature recipe sides and sauces. On top of this, we will be launching a new range of sweet dishes and milkshakes at Whiteladies Road.”

The menu includes popular barbecue boxes where customers can choose from a range of meats including free-range pulled pork and beef brisket and pair them with sides like mac and cheese, fries, and coleslaw. Homemade signature sauces including house barbecue, Chipotle peach and Carolina mustard.

Vegetarian options will include barbecue pulled jackfruit and a new slow-smoked seitan ‘brisket’. Also new to Whiteladies Road will be indulgent American desserts like key lime, s’mores and strawberry and peanut butter pies.
