Father’s Day sorted with special edition ‘Darwin’ citrus spiced rum

The English Spirit Distillery, the UK’s original rum distillers, have created an adventurous new rum, ideal for the daring man in your life; combining double-distilled English rum with a concoction of zesty fruits and surprising spices for a flavourful tipple.

Named after the intrepid explorer and founding father of natural selection, Charles Darwin, English Spirit has taken a traditional spiced rum on an evolutionary journey. Combining refreshing lime and clementine flavours, with soft honey notes and a spicy end of star anise and cardamom.

The process of distilling this pioneering rum is as extraordinary as it sounds; the base spirit is English Spirit’s signature, fermented 100% pure sugar cane molasses, to create a rum of richness and depth. From here, half the liquid is distilled with the juiciest clementines, whilst the other half is distilled with English oak, a technique English Spirit has pioneered and believe is the only distillery in the world to have successfully achieved. The result being a perfectly balanced rum.

After double-distilling, the rum is blended with the zestiest of limes, sumptuous cherries, rich acacia honey, split vanilla pods, fragrant hibiscus, star anise and the complex flavours of cardamom. This infusion not only flavours the rum gorgeously, but gives it a rich, golden tone.

Dr John Walters, Master Distiller says “We wanted to make a spiced rum that’s good enough for sipping neat, in honour of the man that not only fathered the theory of evolution, but also 10 children. We think this will go down well with discerning dads and rum lovers alike.”

Darwin Citrus Spiced English Rum is delicious served chilled, over ice or with a mixer of choice; a gorgeous ginger ale and a garnish of mint is a classic option or partnered with cream soda for a delightfully indulgent drink.

This rum is full strength at 42% ABV and very much a limited edition, with only 100 bottles being filled. Each bottle is 35cl bottle size, priced at £26 each. Exclusively available via the English Spirit website, www.englishspirit.uk, available from Wednesday 2nd June.
