Celebrated St Ives chefs combine to launch The Rockpool’s first pop-up dining experience

A new ‘Best of the Bay’ dining pop-up brings together three of Cornwall’s most exciting chefs from St Ives Bay, offering an exclusive one-night-only culinary experience on Saturday 12th June.

Hosted at The Rockpool Beach Café, head chef Ryan Venning is joined by foodie favourites Michael Smith of Porthminster Beach Café and Ben Prior of Porthminster Kitchen – who’re collaborating to create an impressive, limited edition menu consisting of three courses plus amuse bouche and petit fours.

Each chef is preparing one course of the innovative menu, which takes influence from Asian cuisine – created using the finest locally sourced, seasonal, Cornish produce.

  • Michael Smith, of Porthminster Beach Café, has created a St Ives Bay mackerel sashimi amuse bouche followed by a Red Mullet, coconut, chilli and Spider Crab dish to start.
  • Ryan Venning’s amuse bouche is Hoisin duck, sesame, rice and Daikon before a main course of shaved beef fillet, soba noodles, shitake mushrooms, Bok Choi and pink ginger in a Miso broth.
  • Ben Prior concludes with an inventive Biryani rice pudding, served with mango, coconut, coriander, popadom and cardamom ice-cream – and a chocolate Jaffa petit fore.

All three chefs have also prepared a magnificent alternate vegan menu, which includes Cornish asparagus, yuzu, coconut, sambal and cashew to start; followed by crispy tofu, soba noodles shitake mushrooms, Bok Choi and pink ginger in a miso broth for the main course.

The new Best of The Bay event is a first for The Rockpool Beach Café, located nestled between the dunes of Gwithian and Godrevy, which has just re-opened following a significant refurbishment designed to reimagine the visitor experience.

Masterminded by leading local agency Absolute Design, the reinvented inside space boasts a striking new-look which incorporates ocean hues, soft sandy shades, plenty of natural light, a log burner and plush soft furnishings – creating a wonderful new dining environment.

Advance booking is essential for The Best of the Bay dining pop-up at The Rockpool. Sittings are now available to book for 9pm on June 12th. (earlier sitting already sold-out!). The three-course menu is £48 per person or £68 per person including a specialist wine pairing.
