Summer tastings from The Bottle

A wine bar in Newquay, north Cornwall, is hosting a series of exclusive wine tasting events throughout the summer.

The Bottle, which opened last summer, offers a relaxed and informal dining experience inspired by little wine bars visited by owners, Rob Palmer and Toyah Marshall, on their travels around France and northern Spain.

Toyah Marshall and Rob Palmer, owners of The Bottle in Newquay.

Toyah said: “We had always dreamed of running a business which paired great food and wine. After taking part in a virtual wine tasting during lockdown last year, our vision for The Bottle was reignited. In just six weeks we created a serene space for dining, as well as a place to showcase high quality wines and produce within our deli.

“For us, wine tastings are all about having fun and trying something new in a very laid-back setting. We’re passionate about sourcing some of the very best ingredients from around the world, and introducing our guests to interesting flavours.

“We sometimes work with guest hosts to bring a really unique element to an evening. For example, we’re pleased to be welcoming Carte Blanche Wines in September. They focus on importing wines from ecologically-minded producers which have a real sense of place. We can’t wait to hear all about working with sustainable producers and tasting some of their wines.”

Two events will take place at the wine bar in August and September with a spotlight on rosé, and biodynamic and organic wines. Each event includes the tasting of five wines and a paired tasting plate.

Upcoming events:

  • Sunday 8 August: Rosé Rager – sold out.
  • Sunday 26 September – Biodynamic wines, hosted by Carte Blanche – £28.

Working in collaboration with Newquay Orchard, plans are also being finalised for a wine walk event in September, where guests will journey through the orchards to enjoy sustainably produced wines supplied by The Bottle, paired with food from the team at Canteen at the Orchard.

Rob continued: “In addition to our organised events, we offer private tastings for small groups on request. Our team will curate a bespoke event with wines to suit your group’s palates, and provide the perfect food pairing which will really enhance the flavours of what you are tasting.

“As with all of our events, the wines tasted are discounted on the day – so if you find a new favourite then you can take it away to enjoy at home.”

Private tastings are available for a minimum of four people, with wine-only tastings starting from £20, and from £25 with a food pairing.

Tables and events are bookable via the website: thebottlenqy.co.uk/book. To arrange private tastings, get in touch via email: thebottle.nqy@gmail.com.
