More award wins for Cornwall’s Sharp’s Brewery in the International Beer Challenge 2021

The results of the International Beer Challenge 2021 are out and Cornwall’s Sharp’s Brewery has, yet again, won an impressive away of internationally-recognised awards across its portfolio.

The International Beer Challenge exists to reward and promote excellent beers from around the globe whilst providing brewers with a platform to promote their beers to trade and consumers. The Challenge receives entries from no fewer than 40 countries into over 80 different categories reflecting the diversity in brewing today as well as the traditional beer categories.

The Rock-based brewery has, this year, won a total of six awards across three categories including; three silvers within the ale category for Atlantic Pale Ale, Sea Fury and Wolf Rock and bronze for Doom Bar in the same category. In addition, Offshore Pilsner won bronze in the lager category and exclusive collaboration with neighbouring Camel Valley Vineyard, Sharp’s Camel Valley Pilsner also won bronze in the speciality beer classification.

Bronze-winning Atlantic is a modern pale ale brewed to feature the best attributes of Sharp’s ingredients. First brewed in 2012, it now has an impressive eight awards under its belt including bronze in this year’s World Beer Awards. Also awarded bronze, Sea Fury draws its inspiration from the stormy Atlantic seas that crash into the rugged Cornish coast during the long, dark winter. This exceptional beer was first brewed in 1996 to satisfy demand from local fishermen for a stronger ale to enjoy after long and perilous stints at sea. Today it is enjoyed by a much wider audience who relish its fruity, malty flavour. This brew was also titled ‘World’s Best’ at the World Beer Awards 2021 earlier this year.

Enticing red IPA, Wolf Rock pays homage to both old and new world IPAs with heavyweight hops from the States complemented with the finest British malt for a distinctive flavour and enticing red hue. The name is inspired by the infamous reef Wolf Rock, located eight nautical miles off Land’s End. Needing no introduction, the UK’s number 1 cask ale*, Doom Bar also took home bronze.

Bronze lager winner, Offshore Pilsner was born on the rugged north coast of Cornwall, inspired by those rare moments when the wind turns offshore and hardy surfers are able to catch the perfect wave. It features the perfect balance of continental hops and Czech yeast, giving it a clean, uniquely refreshing taste.

Exclusive collaboration with neighbouring Camel Valley Vineyard, Sharp’s Camel Valley Pilsner offers a crisp, clean bitterness, with a fruity, citrus aroma that comes from the blend of hops. Brewed at Sharp’s, the finished product is then reseeded with Champagne yeast and bottled in traditional Champagne-style bottles at Camel Valley Vineyard a short distance away.

Sharp’s head brewer, Aaron McClure said, “What a year is has been for us at Sharp’s in terms of award wins. We had a sweep at the World Beer Awards earlier this year with two of our beers being awarded ‘World’s Best’ and now we have another six of our products taking up various accolades at the International Beer Challenge. The International Beer Challenge has some of the shrewdest beer judges, the tasting process is rigorous, and the entrants are the absolute best in the world. Here at the brewery in Rock, we are all absolutely delighted to have achieved such immense success on an international level, but we never rest on our laurels, we are only ever as good as our last pint!”

Earlier this year, Sharp’s Brewery yet again put Cornwall on the international stage after a mighty five of its products earned recognition at the prestigious World Beer Awards. This includes Sharp’s special ale, Sea Fury winning the highest accolade of ‘World’s Best Pale Bitter’ as well as Country Winner in the pale ale category. Sharp’s Offshore Pilsner also came away as a Country Winner in the lager category in what was a remarkable success for the Cornwall brewery.

All of these products are available now through Sharp’s Brewery’s online shop. To find out more about the brewery and its products, visit the website at: www.sharpsbrewery.co.uk.
