Following on from the previous successes of their Clear Honey in 2020, Stone’s Honey were thrilled to be given a further accolade for their products when their Soft Set Honey was given a Gold award in the 2021 Taste of the West Awards.
The judges described the honey as “a subtle, elegant honey; soft, creamy and smooth in the mouth” with a “slightly floral” taste and a “lovely pronounced fresh honey and beeswax aroma.” They concluded by stating that Stone’s Soft Set is “delicious” and a “superb” product.
Stone’s Honey’s owner and head beekeeper Jason developed an interest in bees when he started helping tend to his grandfather’s garden hives. After being gifted his own hive, Jason’s passion for beekeeping grew and Stone’s Honey was established in 2015. Stone’s Honey now has a number of honey production apiaries, all based in the South Hams region of Devon and within a five-mile radius of Ivybridge, between the edge of Dartmoor and the South Devon coast. With hives located on farmland amongst unspoilt countryside, the bees are free to forage on wildflowers, trees, hedgerows and flower gardens within some of the best natural areas Devon has to offer.
From modest local beginnings, the company now supplies its honeys to a range of both regional and national businesses, and their distinctive black and gold products can be found gracing the shelves of a number of farm shops, delicatessens and other retailers across the South West. Both Clear and Soft Set honeys are available in a range of sizes, from an individually-portioned breakfast jar to a more traditional family-friendly 340g size. As the business has grown, Stone’s Honey has become a true family affair with everybody lending a hand in every aspect of the business, from extraction to jarring and delivery. Constantly evolving and with the aim of improving products and service year on year, the Stone’s Honey product base has recently been expanded to include a range of gift boxes suitable for foodies, nature-lovers or just those who are difficult to buy for.
The ethos of Stone’s Honey is to produce and supply top quality honey, direct from the hive. Every jar of Stone’s Honey can be traced back to its production apiary and is unpasteurised, unblended and coarse-filtered to retain all of the flavour and all of the nutrition.
