Series of sustainability successes for leading Cornish holiday company

A leading luxury Cornish holiday lettings company, Cornish Gems has kicked-off 2022 with a series of sustainability achievements – receiving a coveted Green Tourism Award, achieving Gold at the Cornwall Tourism Awards (Feb 3rd, 2022) and being shortlisted in the Cornwall Sustainability Awards.

The local company, who manage an exclusive portfolio of around 200 luxury self-catered properties across the county, has received international recognition following a stringent certification process – to achieve a Silver Green Tourism Award.

Considered one of the world’s leading eco-friendly accreditation organisations, the Green Tourism Awards honour hard-working tourism businesses actively striving to be more sustainable.

Having fulfilled the numerous sets of criteria, Cornish Gems was especially recognised for their commitment to protecting the Cornish landscape – in part thanks to their tree planting and waste reduction initiatives – helping to raise awareness and inspire positive change in the community.

And, continuing their series of sustainability successes, Cornish Gems was also recently shortlisted at the Cornwall Sustainability Awards, in addition to the team’s Guest Experience and Corporate Social Responsibility manager Emma Fashokun winning Gold in the Unsung Hero category of Cornwall Tourism Awards.

Recognised for her long-standing commitment to sustainability, Emma was nominated by the team in support of championing a wide-range of CSR and plastic-free initiatives within the company.

Emma Fashokun says: “After a lot of hard work we are thrilled to achieve our Silver Green Tourism Award – and are on a high from the excitement of being recognised by the Cornwall Sustainability and winning Gold at Cornwall Tourism Awards too. It’s so rewarding to be using our business as a force for positive change and see this as only the beginning of our sustainability journey – we’ve set ourselves ambitious new environmental targets and will continue our efforts wholeheartedly, in 2022 and beyond.”
